Death of a Boulez ally, 97
RIPThe composer and conductor Clytus Gottwald, a powerful moderniser of post-War German choral music, has died at a great age.
He got to know Pierre Boulez at Baden-Baden in 1968. The following year Gottwald beame head of new music at South German Radio, where he enagged Boulez nd Michael Gielen to conduct and generally drove a modernist agenda for more than a decade.
He composed more that 100 choral works himself and was extensively recorded.
