Christian Thielemann: I am not Jürgen Klopp
OrchestrasThe outgoing Dresden music director was asked in an interview if, like the Liverpool football manager, he might consider a national role wkth the national team in Berlin. He quoted Klopp’s criteria, then dodged the issue:
TAG24 : Liverpool coach Jürgen Klopp, when asked if he could not imagine becoming a national coach, said it wasn’t completely out of the question, but it just had to fit. Would that also be your answer to the question about Berlin (Staatsoper)?
Thielemann : It simply has to fit, in the planning of the repertoire and in all other relevant questions. Today I choose according to different criteria than in the past. You no longer have to accept a permanent commitment. If, on the other hand, the framework conditions are right, then something will happen.
They’ll be lucky…!
I read this as: “I may be a little bit like Klopp.”
More importantly, he artistically (!) defends Netrebko, Gergiev and Currentzis.
‘Artistically Netrebko’ is an oxymoron.
We all love Christian Thielemann.
Let irony reign!
Has he ever left an institution in a better shape than when he was first hired? No? Then he is no Jürgen Klopp indeed.
Jurgen Klopp embraces people from every background and has never expressed a belief in Germany for Germans. Clearly, he bears no similarities with CT.
An outrageous slur and an impoverished understanding of anything remotely about modern European concerns.
Let me translate Thielemann’s response from its original German:
“I would kill to be Barenboim’s replacement – Berlin is my hometown after all. But it will be on MY TERMS, ja? And because there are others that also want me, I will play all of them off to get what I want. Which is Berlin. Danke schon!”
PS Sarcasm noted!
Okay, thank you, now we know a little bit more about you.
