Twin Peaks composer dies
RIPThe death has been reported of Angelo Badalamenti, composer of choice for David Lynch films. He was 85.
New Jersey born, he once wrote a song for Nina Simone.
His film credits include The Comfort of Strangers (1990), Naked in New York (1993), A Very Long Engagement” (2004) and The Wicker Man (2006).

Sheer sadness. An immense composer in my opinion. His music often has a haunting, indelible quality, such as the soundtrack of Mulholland Drive, in which he actually makes a cameo appearance.
Twin Peaks, such a remarkable capturing of the dazed horror of American suburbia. Badalamenti’s music elevated it even further.
The Twins Peaks music was the best.
Very sad. I’ve lost count of the number of films that I’ve seen that were enhanced by Angelo Badalamenti’s music. He certainly had a gift for melancholic/nostalgic melody.
When a filmmaker finds the ideal composer, the person whose music perfectly complements his (or her) images, it’s like a perfect marriage, and it elevates the work of both parties. Lynch found that in Badalamenti, whose music could be brooding, tender, frightening, nostalgic, otherworldly, lush in romanticism…sometimes all within the same project.
Totally agree. A list of important, sometimes legendary, filmmaker-composer matches can be quite interesting. I can instantly think of four:
David Lynch – Angelo Badalamenti
Frederico Fellini – Nino Rota
David Lean – Maurice Jarre
Theo Angelopoulos – Eleni Karaindrou
Others?
Alfred Hitchcock and Bernard Hermann. Hitchcock worked with a lot of fine composers, including Franz Waxman, but Herrmann was his ultimate musical match.
Sergio Leone and Ennio Morricone.
Among those of the present day, the Coen brothers and Carter Burwell; Pedro AlmodĂłvar and Alberto Iglesias.
I think John Williams worked with Spielberg a few times.
