Trumpet world mourns its hub
RIPWe have been notified of the death of Hub Van Laar, the famed Dutch trumpet maker. He was 58.
Among thousands of creations – some 300 a year, he estimated – he fashioned a made-to-measure trumpet for Ibrahim Maalouf, specifically for the quarter-tones in his compositions. And another for Jon Lewis in Star Wars.
All components for his instruments were sourced in the Netherlands and Germany.
Today the trumpet world has lost one of its best.
Hub was not only an extraordinary artisan, but also an exceptional human being.
I will never forget his warmth and kindness.
It was always such a pleasure to visit him in Margraten, moments that I will now cherish deeply.
May you rest in peace, dearest Hub ❤️.
Say hi to dad up there in Heaven.

58, way too young.
Instrument makers are beautiful people – they are what make possible the music we love and are uplifted by.
Requiescat in pace, Maestro Van Laar.
Gute innovative Instrumentenbauer sind so wichtig für gute Musik. Mit Hub verliert die Musikwelt ei ne solche Korrifere.
