Spain laments a formative maestro, 91
RIPThe conductor Luis Izquierdo, who has died after a long struggle with Alzheimers, was a revivalist force in 1960s Seville, where he conducted the philharmonic, taught at the conservatoire and established a contemporary music series that restored pride in living Spanish composers.
A student of Hans Swarowsky in Vienna, Luis Izquierdo went on to become a professor in Madrid.
