Sick Yannick cancels Christmas week
OrchestrasYannick Nézet-Séguin was due to conduct Nutcracker with his former orhestra, the Rotterdam Philharmonic on the 22nd and 23rd.
But he has called in sick.
They have whisked over Vasily Petrenko from London to replace him.
Also out is François-Xavier Roth who was meant to be conducting Lohengrin in Munich. His replacement is Constantin Trinks.
I rate Petrenko higher than YNS; especially in this repertoire. Good move!!
Did you to listen to the YN-S/Rotterdam Tchaik. 6 on DG? . . . It’s pretty darn good for a modern recording of it.
A pity. There’s a wonderful rendition of YNS/Rotterdam doing Nutcracker from about ten years ago.

It’s nice to hear it in its full symphonic glory as opposed to the average undermanned ballet orchestra playing in the pit.
It is a quite superb reading, beautifully shaped. I’m waiting for him to record it.
