Sad end for a triple Grammy winning cellist
RIPReports reach us tonight of the death of Maxine Neuman, an American cellist with three Grammys to her credit.
Maxine, 74, had been in the final stages of cancer while her husband Reinhard Humburg is in stage 4 pancreatic cancer. An appeal, launched recently to help with their care, has raised £75,000.
Colleagues tell us that Maxine’s struggle is now at an end. The fundraiser still requires our help.
Maxine, who taught at Bennington, was a founding member of the Claremont Duo, the Crescent String Quartet, the Vermont Cello Quartet, Breve, and the Walden Trio.
Rest in peace. The idiocy of a healthcare system that forces people to fundraise to die with dignity.
It’s not a health care system, but the lack of one. The US seems to prefer that, as they do not vote otherwise. The UK prefers to drive down it’s service by financial cuts. It consistently votes for a party that does this.
On a practical level, in England we only have two possibly parties to vote for – Labour and Conservatives. The Scots have the Scottish National Party, and Wales something else Both have never addressed the National Health Service properly. It’s not about cuts to the NHS but the mismanagement of a fantastic system -free at the point of delivery for ALL! No credit cards needed for anyone.
Once govt got involved in setting prices for procedures, health care costs skyrocketed.
Idiocy is the right word; more govt intervention is not the cure.
That is some seriously beautiful playing! I’m sorry I never met her. R. I. P.
