The Royal Scottish National Orchestra has named Pei-Jee Ng as its principal cello, starting in the New Year.

The Australian has been co-principal cello in the London Philharmonic for the past eight years. Now, it looks like he has tired of London.
His final concert with the LPO was in Brussels on Tuesday (pictured). He writes: ‘I bid them farewell last night… Mahler 9 in Brussels, and wow I wasn’t prepared for the flood of emotion that comes with leaving such a band…friends and colleagues that have allowed me to feel I actually belong somewhere. I only wish the full cello section from my very first concerts in 2014 were also on stage with us.’

In other cello notes, the Florida Orchestra has a new principal cello in Yoni Draiblate. The orchestr ais conducted by former LSO doublebass Michael Francis.
