Podcast: The manager’s wife is conducting tonight
UncategorizedDavid Krauss, principal trumpet at the Metropolitan Opera, remembers that he was at school with Keri-Lynn Wilson. She’s now an international conductor, married to Peter Gelb, who is general manager of the Met.
Conducting, she says, is ‘an out of body experience’.

She’s actually very good.
Agree. I saw the Lady Macbeth early this season at the Met, and her conducting was very exciting and full of drama.
This conductor with an international career is referred to as the manager’s wife? Really?
Is there really not a way to promote the podcast (and a number of interesting ones on the site) without once again insinuating something inappropriate about this engagement? Gelb has been at the MET for 16 long years (too long for many on SD); all this time he and KLW have been married and this is the first time she’s conducting there. And for much of that time she’s had a very respectable if not exactly A-list career.
Pretty remarkable restraint, I would suggest.
