Just beautiful. God bless Janet for her contribution to the world of singing and humanity. It also has lasted long after her retirement from recordings which, in those days, were not pieced together bar by bar or fiddled with.
WONDERFUL.
Utter joy! How blessed many of us have been to be alive when she was gracing concert platforms, opera houses and recordings! May she know how much we adored her voice and her total commitment to her art.
Dame Janet influenced a whole generation of singers by her way of singing, but I don’t think I have ever met another singer trying conciously to sound like her. That would be so difficult to do. Even her finest recordings struggle to reflect the uniqueness and sheen of her tone quality I think having heard her sing in opera several times.
The ultimate accolade is that after listening to her one thinks ‘ What great music !’ Then ‘what a fabulous voice!’ That is the truth of her art.
