Five opera houses go green
OperaLa Monnaie in Brussels has rolled out a newsustainability project with four partners – Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris, the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence, the Opéra de Paris and the Opéra de Lyon.
The aim is to reduce the carbon footprint resulting from the manufacture and transportation of the stage sets.
Plus:
reducing the use of resources by reusing the same structures;
reducing the amount of waste generated when building and rebuilding sets;
reducing the volume of storage required;
reducing the volumes and bulk requiring transportation in co-productions (the standard components remain in each house)
reducing financial outlay on sets.
Details here.
Does simply mean “co-productions” or are we looking at “projected” sets…or both? Neither is new at this point.
We call that ‘co-productions’. Why the fuss?
Yes, that’s really going to make a difference. But then you’d expect WEF- inspired eco-hysteria from Brussels.
I think you’ll find it’s called “economic sustainability”.
