Dutch shock as conductor is killed by ambulance
RIPThe Netherlands music profession is reeling from the news that a well-known singer and conductor died on Saturday after his vehicle collided with an ambulance.
Bas Kuijlenburg, 60, was conductor of the Culemborgs Mannenkoor and a bass-baritone soloist in many operatic projects. He sang in the Dutch National Opera chorus for 20 years.
His roles included Agamemnon in Iphigenie and Aulide (Gluck), Pietro in La Muette de Portci (Auber), Raimbaud in Le Comte Ory (Rossini) and Silvio in I Pagliacci (Leoncavallo).
A minute’s silence is being observed by some Dutch music organisations.
