Death of a classical PR

RIP

We have learned with sadness of the death from cancer of Paul Westcott, long-serving press officer for Chandos Records and a source of vast knowledge about recording history. He was a contributor to the Penguin Guide to Recorded Music.

Today would have been his birthday. He would have been 53.

Paul was the partner and heir of the music critic Edward Greenfield, who died in 2015.

A friend writes: ‘Paul had been experiencing considerable pain and suffering from blood cancer and aggressive chemotherapy over the past 2.5 years, but this did not diminish his warmth of spirit nor his love of music in the slightest. He passed away in the early hours of Christmas morning, peacefully in his sleep.’

What on earth is going on with all these sudden deaths. Happening left, right and centre ???

  • Gayle says:

Furthermore, a most erudite contributor to the 2008 edition of the Penguin Record Guide. He was an incredibly lively personality.
    RIP.

  • Richard Howard says:

His musical knowledge aside, Paul was a generous, convivial, quick-witted and outspoken friend who will be sorely missed. RIP.
