Dame Beryl Grey has died at 95
RIPThe death has been announced today of the landmark British ballerina Beryl Grey, a ‘commanding figure’ at the Royal Ballet from the day of her debut, at 15, as Odette/Odile in Swan Lake.
Beryl’s early steps were overshadowed by the all-conquering Margot Fonteyn, but she developed a strong following of her own, becoming the first ritish ballerina to dance i Russin with the Bolshoi and Kirov companies.
As artistic director of the London Festival Ballet, she took Rudolf Nureyev on a US tour and presented him at the White House.
Alastair Macaulay has written a fine obituary here.
