While there are countless Messiahs performed every December, does anyone do Judas Maccabeus? Jews won’t because Handel wasn’t Jewish, which is silly. Likewise, Esther should be performed every Purim. I guess we have to form Jewish Handel Societies.
What’s not to like about a Handel a day for eight days? And Tucker had a superb voice. But my love for Handel has grown immeasurably since the arrival of HIPP, so I’m hoping we’ll get to hear some more recent performances too.
How about the video of Lorraine Hunt in “As with rosy steps”, conducted by William Christie, from Theodora at Glyndebourne? And any Handel aria sung by the wonderful Tim Mead would be a treat.
Nice suggestions, for which I thank you.
I love the idea of a Handel a day,
but did not notice until now, days later, the sweet origin of the illustration! Merci!
