A freezing Finn captures major festival
NewsThe Bregenz Festival, in Austria, has announced its next director.
She is Lilli Paasikivi, presently artistic director of Finnish National Opera.
A mezzo-soprano, she has never held a job outside Finland.
Paasikivi, 57, is on the books of the London agency HarrisonParrott, a warehouse for Finnish talent.
Bregenz is famed for its stage on the lake. Lilli Paasikivi is famed for her winter swims (see publicity photograph).
If Finns keep rising at the present rate, slipped disc will soon have to be retitled luistanut levy.
She’s a good Mahler singer, Norman, but you probably know that already. She made a recording of the complete and fully orchestrated songs of Alma Mahler for the Ondine label. Pretty cool!
Luistanut levy is a valid Google translation, still better is Luiskahtanut levy. However, the right medical term is Välilevyn pullistuma.
Thank you, Paavo. I shall use the correct term if I ever visit a Finnish chiropractor.
Ok, first things first:
This photo is at least 30 years old,
2nd, now she and her casting director can smoke pot at a nice lake view.
