Rotterdam rocked by clarinet’s sudden death
RIPJan Jansen played e-flat clarinet with his usual flourish in the Rotterdam Philharmonic concerts last Thursday and Friday.
On Sunday, suddenly, he died.
Jan was 64 and had played in the orchestra for 40 years.
Chief conductor Lahav Shani said: ‘Our most beloved Jan Jansen has left us tonight.
As I’m writing these lines I’m completely in tears.
He was one of the purest souls I’ve ever knew, and music was his life. The last words he wrote to me last week were “music always makes me feel better”. Before every single concert, even when he was very weak, he always came to my room and gave me some of his high spirits. One of the most committed, generous, risky musicians, and ALWAYS spreading positivity and love, I will miss his presence on and off the stage tremendously. My heart goes to his dear family. Good bye my friend and rest in peace. someone who always radiated positivity and love. I will miss his presence on and off stage terribly.’
Shani seems to have a very nice personality. and has respect for people
