London’s new principal horn is just 20 years old
NewsThe Aurora Orchestra has appointed Annemarie Federle as principal horn.
Aged 20, she won the brass category of BBC Young Musician of the Year a couple of years back.
Nicholas Collon’s Aurora orchestra plays standing up. It has been exceptionally favoured by the Arts Council at the expense of London’s long-established symphony orchestras.
Is there a problem that they play standing up? The Australian Chamber Orchestra (and others) have been doing it for years without any grumbles in this forum.
Its a freelance orchestra.
As is every major London orchestra other than the opera house and BBC bands.
There are problems with Aurora, but that’s not one of them.
But being a member, as in the case of the other freelance London orchestras, (LPO, RPO, LSO, Philharmonia, OAE, Academy AND etc…) does it include holiday pay, or even private health benefits? So perhaps your comment is erroneous.
Most UK orchestras are freelance
Indeed it is. I would be interested to know where the job was advertised?!!!
I believe it was advertised on their website and Music Chairs when it became available in 2019. There would then have been a trial process. Its pretty standard for UK orchestras I believe.
What an annoying, misleading, clickbait headline
A younger Sarah Willis!
Quite a resemblance!
I don’t understand this comment? They’re both horn players, but Sarah Willis sits on an entirely different seat?
Congratulations on a very simple but very astute insight. Quite often responses here are not well thought out and have a very tenuous foundation.
She’s a marvelous horn player!! Extremely talented! Not surprised at all!
The Aurora Orchestra are good, but their playing standing up and by heart are just gimmicks! The result is not different to that achieved by similar groups.
Aurora Orchestra – gimmick …
Period instruments – gimmick …
Quality of performance …
the only real measuring stick …
So London has one orchestra now?
