Just in: Thielemann cancels Berlin
NewsMessage received:
Christian Thielemann has unfortunately had to cancel his appearance conducting the concert on 11 December due to scheduling issues. The Berliner Philharmoniker Foundation and the Karajan Academy of the Berliner Philharmoniker are very grateful to Kent Nagano for taking over the conducting duties.
The programme has been changed and is now as follows:
Sun 11.12.22 20:00
Philharmonie Berlin, Chamber Music Hall
Karajan Academy of the Berliner Philharmoniker
Kent Nagano conductor
Camilla Nylund soprano
Maurice Ravel Le Tombeau de Couperin
Gustav Mahler Rückert-Lieder
Paul Hindemith Chamber Music No. 1 op. 24, No. 1
Sergei Prokofiev Symphony No. 1 in D major op. 25 “Symphonie classique”
Signing a contract in Chicago that day perhaps.
That’s not happening any time soon. Record companies are not lining up to record Bruckner in Chicago, as American union costs are too high to do that these days. Besides, Thielemann is currently recording his second full Bruckner cycle in Vienna (the first one is Dresden).
Plus, Bruckner doesn’t sell.
He’s not wanted in Chicago as the music director (I’m a Honeck fan and after him, Iván Fischer) and will go elsewhere.
Drat, drat and double drat!
That’s triple drat!
pity, since the program was really interesting, Thielemann conducting John Adams and Schreker, Mahler and Wagner. hope he makes it another time !
