Two American pianists and a Ukrainian vie for $100k award

The Honens Competition in Canada named three finalists last night.

They are:

Rachel Breen, US, 26

Sasha Kasman Laude, US, 27 (pictured) and

Illia Ovcharenko, Ukraine, 21.

The winner receives C$100,000 and a half-million dollar career development package.

    Ovcharenko may be a public darling because of his nationality during these times, but objectively he is a terrible pianist.

      Your use of the word “objectively” in stating your own opinion is quite laughable. I don’t know this pianist at all, but apparently a panel of highly respected professional pianists do not find him to be objectively terrible whatsoever.

    I don’t know Ovcharenko, but I know the two young women very well, and they are both spectacular pianists and musicians. A very tough choice……
