Posthumous does not begin to describe it.

  • Alan says:

    More complaining.

Is anyone forcing you to buy a ticket?

  • M McGrath says:

Actually, Alan, to me this news bit: it’s not complaining; it delicious cynicism. And perhaps admiration of the chutzpah involved. Personally, I’m happy for every cent Carreras earns. There are lots of follow-on costs to his having had leukaemia. And he’s done a lot of charity work around that disease.

    • Maggie says:

Josep Carreras still.earns and gives generously to these foundations he established- He is a good man.The photo of them with Putin was years ago when they sang in Russia.

  • Edoardo says:

And why is Putin on the foto??

    • OperaFan says:

That’s what I wanted to know. Why are they playing footsie with Kremlin Bastard!

      • Maggie says:

That photo was many years ago – before the war and the troubles – Josep Carreras is a good man and has achieved building a great foundation to hopefully cure Leukaemia and blood disorders- Placido Domingo also does a fair share of good work – It’s a low act to pick on these two men.

  • David says:

This overly snide comment might be more effective if you’d spelled spurious correctly.

    • M McGrath says:

It’s not a spelling error (implying ignorance) but a typographical error (implying proofreading failed in the rush). That can hapen to anyon.

  • Sue Sonata Form says:

I look at Carreras and remember him being desperately ill more than 30 years ago with Leukaemia. He looks very well now and it gives me hope since we are facing a cancer crisis with one of our own 40yo children.

  • Edward Kaahea says:

Nice !!! Come to Hawaii !!!

  • John R. says:

They’re definitely cashing in…..doing something of dubious merit for a buck but I don’t see anything wrong with it. I don’t think they’re doing any harm to the art form, as a matter of fact they have probably helped. I assume that some of the unwashed masses who bought their CDs ended up buying other more meritorious discs or attended a concert or opera…..just one guy’s opinion.

    • Madea says:

Neither of them needs money. And if you don’t like them you don’t have to attend or listen. For the record of the writer of this drivel, they are not former tenors they are opera singers to the present. They are humanitarian and very much admired the world over.

  • Maggie says:

Unwashed masses- I and many thousands of people bought Carreras and Domingo cd’s and opera dvd’s -Your comment is derogatory.

    • John R. says:

Why is that derogatory? I don’t think it’s particularly controversial to suggest the people who bought those discs were not terribly sophisticated in terms of classical music. That’s all I was saying…but I think it was a good thing since it was probably an entree for many of those people to delve deeper into classical music.

  • Scott says:

Will they be singing baritone arias?

  • Ed says:

Good luck to them! A worthwhile thing to do that will give much pleasure. So why the snidy comments?

  • Save the MET says:

Off pitch con molto vibrato. All operas should follow the Melba rule and get off the stage while they can still carry a tune.
