Daniel Barenboim’s son picks up his award
NewsThe Greek President Katerina Sakellaropoulou turned out with Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis last night in Salonika to present Daniel Barenboim with the Empress Theophano Prize for bridging cultural diversities.
Barenboim was too unwell to attend. His son Michael said the prize ‘inspires all of us who are here today to find the courage and vision necessary to ensure that dialogue and understanding will always prevail over mean-spiritedness and superstitions.’
A beautiful ceremony and a moving speech by Michael. We pray that his father fully recovers soon and returns to the stage where he belongs. The world is a far poorer place without him.
There is, very unfortunately, no cure for a severe neurological illness. The effects can only be retarded.
