Boston is first US orchestra back in Japan
NewsThe Boston Symphony will make a four-coty tour of Japan in November, the first US ensemble to return since Covid and its first foreign tour since 2018.
CEO Gail Samuel says: ‘As the Boston Symphony Orchestra embarks on our first overseas tour since 2018, we are more aware than ever before of the importance of the orchestra’s vibrant network of music communities, starting in Boston and reaching throughout the country and across the globe. The BSO’s special relationship with Japan has been forged over many years through numerous past tours led by BSO Music Director Laureate Seiji Ozawa and this will be our second tour to Japan with Music Director, Andris Nelsons. We are thrilled to be performing for our Japanese audiences.’
If this marks the rebirth of full scale touring in Japan again I will be absolutely Thrilled. (And let’s give China a long rest)
Nicely done, Boston Symph!
Some pretend that Japan is not a top destination any longer. The Bill Clinton of classical music and Alexander the Great will take their orchestra to Stillwater, Oklahoma in January.
Stillwater. Less crowd, no press, more free time for the conductor’s favorite post rehearsal intense afternoon occupations, made possible through the liberality of Alexander and the CSOA.
But Japan was the original CSO January destination, not Stillwater. The Japan cut did hurt. So the Bill Clinton of classical music and Alexander the Great this week visited the Japanese consulate in Chicago, attempting to defy reality and make a dinner count as a surrogate tour. In what manner did Muti make the consulate dinner visit fit into his torrid (Alexander-sponsored) afternoon and evening activities, it’s something that only a privileged few can grasp.
Sayounara, Maestro!
You’re such a pill.
the amount of BS in this post is staggering…what a load of crap chicagorat continually spews out on this site.
And other people get banned for much less.
The LSO is currently on tour in Japan with Rattle, going to Korea next week. They were in Sapporo when the missiles were launched from North Korea earlier this week. The Show Must Go On.
However, the ticket for the Japan tour remains.
I hope they come away with lots of perfume and cologne from their Coty tour.
