Anne Sofie von Otter and Thomas Hampson to star in Bergman remake
NewsLa Monnaie has named the stars for its remake of Bergman’s 1982 TV serial, Fanny and Alexander.
It is being composed as an opera for December 2024. The composer is Mika Karlsson and the librettist Royce Vavrek. The opera will be directed by Ivo van Hove.
I think the casting is inspired and sensational, now give them some theatrically semi grim Lutheran music hallesque music to sing. I love the movie

As I remember, the movie takes place around 1900 so I hope the director of the opera has enough sense to “update” it. Otherwise we won’t understand what it’s about!
