Was there not a female trombonist in a German orchestra some time ago?
yes, her name is Abbie Conant. She was fired by Celibidache because she wasn’t a man and when they hired her (for a brief period in Germany, auditions were behind a screen), they thought her name was Abraham. This was in the ’70’s.
