Was there not a female trombonist in a German orchestra some time ago?
yes, her name is Abbie Conant. She was fired by Celibidache because she wasn’t a man and when they hired her (for a brief period in Germany, auditions were behind a screen), they thought her name was Abraham. This was in the ’70’s.
Ah, yes. Just googled it. It seems the conductor did not believe in her breathing technique and complained she always had a red face.
