What a surprise when there is a major economic crisis hitting Europe. Keeping the lights on in theatres might become a challenge as well.

  • Andreas B. says:

this seems to be very old news – Süddeutsche Zeitung’s article from February:

    https://www.sueddeutsche.de/muenchen/muenchen-bayerische-staatsoper-programm-dorny-sibler-1.5531975

the city’s contribution to the opera’s budget (which is minute compared to the Bavarian State’s) had already been halved in 2020 and “slashed” completely in 2021.

There is no word about it affecting the ‘Ja, Mai’ festival next spring.

unless SD has some new information?

Rather than splurging like drunk eccentrics, madly, as is the wont in Munich, they’ll have to be better with more thought and less affectation. Could make for better evenings in the opera.
