Chamber Music America has first non-white president
NewsJennifer Grim, associate professor at Frost School of Music at the University of Miami, has been named President of the Board of Directors of Chamber Music America.
The Californian flutist is the first African-American head of CMA.
And with this courageous act, racism was ended in the world.
Did it occur to you that she just might be highly qualified for this position?
Bravo! Jennifer is a world class artist, fantastic chamber musician, and leader in the field.
Fantastic news for Chamber Music America and the field at large! Jennifer is a brilliant musician, a committed educator, and a person of true integrity. CMA is fortunate to have her leadership. Congratulations, Jennifer!
Look forward to her board letters exhorting us all to slay in our respective lanes and to platform proud trans voices, etc. That’s pretty much what it all is now in America.
Tell that to Billy Childs, who preceded Grim as president. And you can tell it to Ron Crutcher as well, who was, in fact, the first non-white board president. Really shoddy article.
Just wrong. Ron Crutcher and Billy Childs have both served previously as board chairs at CMA.
Last year I had a lovely chat with then CMA president Mimi Huang in her Eastman School of Music office. As a former board secretary of CMA, I have no particular interest in tracing ethnicities, but the headline would seem to be a bit off. Congrats to the new president and all best wishes to her for a successful term.
It will probably change for ever destiny of chamber music…
