Breaking: Hong Kong orchestral musician is charged with explosives offence
NewsMan Hay, a trumpet player in the Hong Kong Sinfonietta, has been remanded in custody after police claim to have found explosives in his possession.
If convicted Hay, 31, faces a possible jail sentence of up to 14 years. A bail request was refused.
Report here.
On his way to play in 1812 Overture?
Was it really necessary to post this story or is this what you mean by “…swift and reliable inside information on classical music…”
Hmm just searched and here are more details in case anyone is interested. He rented a storage space and stored 25lb explosives on Sept 2nd. Other suspicious findings include 3 broadswords, 2 axes, 2 baseball stick, 1 wood stick and 43 metal balls. Not sure the scale of the attack he is planning.
PS it was reported by very few media. I wonder how Mr Lebrecht learned the news.
“If convicted…”
Probably a foregone conclusion in today’s Hong Kong.
Don’t forget the trumpet. It is a battle accessory that has been used by armies for centuries.
