Transfer news: St Paul snatches principal from Atlanta
OrchestrasThe Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra has recruited Andrew Brady, principal bassoon of the Atlanta Symphony, to the same position.
Brady gets his first gig as soloist in Mozart’s Sinfonia Concertante on September 23. ‘The ensemble and organization provide flexibility and many opportunities that are just not possible in a symphony orchestra setting,’ he says.
An important part of the genesis for the uncanny instrumental sound Stan Getz produced was his early training as a bassoonist. Stan’s primary motivation at the time was being able to use the pool at a high school with an opening for a bassoonist in the band.

He was rude to Stan tracy the pianist at ronnie scotts jazz club. In London.
Scott never spoke to him again
This is, I believe, the second Atlanta principal to announce his departure since the new conductor was announced. (The former principal trumpet is headed for Dallas.) Coincidence?
Third actually, and yes it is a coincidence.
Dallas is a bigger orchestra/better job than Atlanta. Yes, coincidence.
He’s entirely correct in his quote above and I wish him well.
Congrats Andrew!
I can’t blame Andrew, who is of color and LGBTQ, for wanting to get the hell out of Georgia
Interesting. Georgians are a very diverse and accepting group; have you ever lived here?
Well, that’s certainly not close minded…
The George Floyd murder and Daunte Wright killing both happened not far from St Paul.
Sincere question: When you write that this person is LGBTQ, which letter(s) specifically? You can’t lump people together into a group and pretend they’re all the same members. At what point is a man who trans to a woman and still pursues women a lesbian, for example, despite carrying the tools? I can’t find an explanation. A woman who trans to a man and still pursues men—is this person now gay?
Cool gig for a bassoonist. He’ll get to be heard.
Atlanta is now without Principal bassoon, clarinet, horn, trumpet, cello, and 2nd violin. Quite a turnover.
Andrew Brady is a beautiful bassoonist and musician. He deserves to be playing anywhere he wants to go.
