Ruth Leon recommends… Summer Replay – Wigmore Hall
Ruth Leon recommendsSummer Replay – Wigmore Hall
Regular readers are familiar with my addiction to London’s venerable concert hall on Wigmore Street. Their regular concerts, presented online during the pandemic, kept me going when the chances of hearing live chamber music were between non-existent and none.
Over the last two years, Wigmore Hall’s digital programme has become more important than ever. At a time when physical access to live music was limited, they were able to reach far beyond their four walls and share performances from exceptional artists internationally. I, for one, am extremely grateful.
Now, while the Hall itself is being refurbished, August is being given over to what they are calling Summer Replay, 32 exclusively re-published digital concerts to watch for free this month. This is by way of a thank you to their supporters for all their support throughout the year.
Here, then, is a new digital series from their extensive HD video archive of concerts and events, many of which have not been available to view for a long time. There are some wonderful concerts from the last two years to catch up on anytime, or watch again, from Ian Bostridge, Imogen Cooper, Vox Luminis, Miklós Perényi, the Nash Ensemble and many others.
All videos are free to view on the Wigmore Hall website.
I too am addicted to Wigmore Hall. As an Australian living far from concert halls and live music, the online concerts – about two years of them – have filled my life with joy. With each concert I watch/listen to, I make a donation. It is all wonderfully simple, and being able to listen with a score on my lap (not disturbing others) is a huge bonus. Life has changed!
