Kirill Petrenko: It’s a toe he broke
NewsWe reported yesterday, somewhat tongue in cheek, that the Berlin Phil conductor had overdone wishing himself ‘break a leg’ and was incapacitated for several festival concerts, including one BBC Prom.
In fact, we hear from insiders that it’s just a toe.
In future, they’ll be wishing him ‘toe-toi’.
Loath though I am to defend Petrenko, breaking a toe really hurts. Really, really hurts! I’ve had several major broken bones, and 9 broken toe bones. The toes hurt. Admittedly they heal quicker.
This all became a very ridiculous discussion, knowing how Petrenko tries keeping his life private 🙂
Must be a slow, ‘covid’ news day…..
Somewhat tongue in cheek, somewhat to often on SD?
Isn’t conductor Valentin Uryupin still waiting for you to correct your post, Mr Lebrecht?
This would be respectful and no tongue in cheek.
Oh dear, during Mahler’s “Nachtmusik” he has to tiptoe.
May he heal well and quickly!
Toi, toi, toi for Salzburg.
Didn’t a broken toe kill Lully?
Professional trauma…
Just as well it wasn’t his ribs or shoulder. Then it might have been significant news! But a toe? Get a chair and conduct sitting down as Zubin Mehta did at the Proms on Tuesday!
There once was a Maestro
Called Kirill Petrenko
Who cancelled one out of two.
The cause was a toe
He had lost in a show;
Now he only needs one shoe.
