Easton is actually 70 miles from Washington, on the other side of the Chesapeake Bay on the “Del-Mar-Va” peninsula. Lovely area.

Correct. It was what you might call the “destination” town for people from Washington, Baltimore, Philadelphia and New York, a place where many have second homes and enjoy weekend pursuits in nature, especially sailing on the legendary Chesapeake. It has a real Alderburgh (the UK town inextricably connected to Britten) feel to it. Totally unpretentious, it attracts a huge diversity of intellectual interests, being so close to DC. Since Covid, many have stayed and shifted their work here, out of the big cities, so it makes the perfect place to build a long-term artist residency.

Great news for us Washingtonians! Looks like the start of something beautiful for the US East Coast and the Eastern Shore in particular. Her first season of solo artists rivals anything over at the Kennedy Center:

“Inspired by the storied associations of individual artists with unique places – from Argerich and Lugano to Bernstein and The Berkshires – Venezuelan pianist and composer Gabriela Montero brings world-class musicians, mentorship and community engagement to her new home town on Maryland’s Eastern Shore. From the intimate setting of the Prager Family Center for the Arts in the heart of downtown Easton, audiences enjoy up-close performances by some of the most acclaimed artists of our time.”

Anti-Chavista pianist finds position in DC metro area. Gosh, what a surprise.

Of all the absurdities that have come our way over the years, this takes the gold medal! To suggest we are connected to the US government only begs one question: who do you work for? The only thing more absurd than your inference is your support for a regime that has destroyed a nation, caused the exile of 7 million citizens, and counts Putin as its closest ally. Good luck to you.
