Who knew he’d been lined up for the inaugural Rudi Bing memorial lecture at the Edinburgh Festival?

Peter Gelb, head of New York’s Metropolitan Opera since 2006, gives an inaugural lecture on the importance of the arts and culture, in memory of Rudolf Bing, the founder of the International Festival, presented in association with Edinburgh Jewish Cultural Centre. An award-winning producer of films, recordings, radio broadcasts, operas, and festivals, Gelb has worked with many of the world’s leading artists.

Good for him. I’m sure the Scots will love him in Edinburgh.

  • Nick2 says:

One event I will happily miss.

Gelb, who sacked the Met Opera orchestra and imposed vaccine apartheid above and beyond the requirements imposed by the government of New York. What an insult to the memory of Rudolf Bing… but then again, the Edinburgh Festival, in sacking Gergiev, has undermined its founding spirit, which was predicated upon reconciliation between nations that had every reason to feel strong antipathy towards each other (Bing was a pioneer in bringing German and Austrian orchestras to perform in Edinburgh at a time when the privations and devastating destruction of World War 2 still loomed large).

  • Sanity says:

Peter Gelb talking about “the importance of the arts and culture”? The man who refused to pay half a dime to his musicians while the Metropolitan Opera was shut? The man who hired a “Chief Diversity Officer” while doing everything he could to starve his artists towards accepting a shameful pay cut? Have people completely lost their minds?
