Sadness as Carl the Violist dies of lung cancer
RIPThe American viola player Carl St Jacques, a member of the Evergreen Trio, has died in Sydney, Australia, three months after receiving a cancer diagnosis.
His wife, Jakila Sun, writes:
With the heaviest heart
I must let you know that
3-months after being diagnosed with lung cancer
My beautiful husband
Carl St. Jacques
Passed away
On Tuesday 24th May at 11:38pm
Carl fought to recover with all his might
Heart, humour and faith
We truly believed that he would beat the odds and fully heal.
In the last 24 hours
We had to surrender to God’s plan
Whatever that looks like
In the hope that suffering may cease
That he may find peace
Please forgive me
As it’s taken some time
To find words to share
Though this immense devastation
and heart break
Carl is a divine being
On Earth and in Heaven
We are beyond lucky
To have been graced
By his honour, talent and love

Classically trained at New World School of Arts and Indiana University, Carl worked across several genres and wrote his own songs. But pride in his instrument shone through all he did. On social media, he was always Carl The Violist.
