Ridiculous. If there’s no winner then the runner up is the winner.
No – Not ridiculous. I can think of several competitions where the 1st prize should have been withheld, rather than given to the best from a field of common mediocrity. A first prize should signify that someone of truly exceptional capabilities has arrived, someone who is head and shoulders above the crowd. If that person didn’t materialize, then don’t give a first prize.
Well, if the standard expected is the standard set by Maestro Svetlanov himself then yes the talent would likely be less than imposing… ..and good for them for not awarding a prize anyway. It’s not Britain’s Got Talent.
hahaha is that a joke? this Sirvend who already guest conducted Monte Carlo Orchestra many times? oh boy, conducting competitions
Hi, would you be so kind and tell me exactly when I guest conducted there? I‘d be super interested to know that, because then I can put in my CV. Thx in advance.

Being so enthusiastically well informed, you should have realized, that the production had been cancelled due to covid. But a nice try to blame someone, anyway. Cheers.
Not nice to ignore second runner up of this competition – Henri Christopher Aavik (Estonia)
For anyone actually interested in the competition, I recommend watching the broadcast of the last two rounds on the Svetlanov website…there, it’s also apparent that the award ceremony had to be delayed by some 20 minutes or so, which begs the question, if the jury’s decision was that easily reached. And Mo Steinberg using the opportunity of his speach to market his own conducting of the orchestra at this occasion is remarkable.
Unlike other competitions where men are banned from participating (La Maestra), this competition is open to both men and women, and the jury decided the finalist based on their performance (who happened to be all of them men), and finally that none of them was good enough to win. That is very different to “men-only contest”.
