NATO wives get taken to the opera
NewsPartners of leaders at the NATO summit in Madrid were taken today on a tour of the Teatro Real.
Their host was HM Queen Letizia and they watched part of a rehearsal of Verdi’s opera Nabucco, which opens on Tuesday 5 July.
Participants were: Linda Rama (Albania), Jodei Haydon (Australia), Annik Penders (Belgium), Andri Anastasiades (Cyprus), Sanja Music Milanovic (Croatia), Juraj Rizman (Slovakia), Brigitte Macron (France) Andrea Levite (Latvia) Diana Nausediene (Lithuania) Gauthier Destenay (Luxemburg), Lidija Dukanovic (Montenegro), Elizabeta Pendarovska (North Macedonia) and Agata Kornhauser-Duda (Poland).
I’m pretty sure that Gauthier Destenay is not Xavier Bettel’s wife.
Nor is Juraj Rizman much of a wife to Zuzana Čaputová.
It is also unlikely that Juraj Rizman is Zuzana Čaputová‘s wife. Time to start using more appropriate terms?
They’re not allowed to swap? What happens in Madrid stays in Madrid…unless spied by Norman.
Carrie not there?
Probably gone shopping.
She’s been part of the G7 wives’ programme in Munich though, piccies in the press today. And in that case they really are all wives.
Carrie Johnson was not in attendance in Madrid. Nor were all of the spouses or partners of other leaders.
Little girls go to the opera. Boys play with guns. Shows what they think of women and opera.
So the wives should have gone to Club de Tiro Jarapalo?
On the brink of a third world war and some people go to the opera. Surely partners of leaders could have stayed at home instead of wasting public money.
The House Spouses of NATO go to the opera.
It’s the bloody 21st century, wife or husband, don’t they have day jobs they have to go to?
I hope spouses pay their own way, airfare hotel and food, I don’t see why their expenses should be covered on their spouse’s business trips.
Carrie Johnson not there?
Clearly she doesn’t want to be outed by Dominic Raab as a champagne socialist.
Dominic Raab’s attack on Angela Raynor for going to Glyndebourne was absurd and offensive.
But it seems to have sparked at least a small debate on the whole notion that opera is for all, not just elites. Raynor paid for her own ticket — a lower-end one, £62 (which is apparently less than a football ticket, let alone Glasto or a pop concert). She went to The Marriage of Figaro.
Raab has conclusively joined the ranks of the tone-deaf who surround the current Prime Minister as a human shield against real life as lived in modern Britain.
Why was it “absurd and offensive”. Raynor pushes her so called working class credentials at every opportunity, both inside and outside of parliament. She makes great play of her background at every opportunity and is obsessed by what she still sees as a “class war”. Perhaps if she got her head out of her arse (and the 1970s) and demonstrated an understanding of the society we live in, then Rabb would have no need to take the piss out of her!
Why shouldn’t people with a working-class upbringing go to the opera? I do.
