Would be nice if we had a 4 year ban on competitions – far too many of them and not enough geniuses between them.
We only need one competition in the world to discover one single genius every 5 years – that would be more than enough to cater for the world market.
Far too many is certainly true. As Leon Fleisher used to say, there is almost one on every street corner these days.
However, a true genius won’t need a competition to make his or her way.
There are 3 current New England Conservatory students in the semi-finals. (There were 5 in the quarter-finals.)
I only see two Russians on that list, not three…
Surely the age limit should be lower for these ‘musical survivor’ fiestas.
Maybe 25, better yet 22.
Still competing at 28 or 30? Get an adult life people.
(Yes, I know it’s one extra year because of COVID — so 26 this time.)
