All the best maestro! I will never stop to listen his records especilly the ones from Göteborg.
Congratulations to possibly one of the greatest conductors alive!
Neeme Järvi must also be the most recorded conductor of all time (as judged by his vast repertoire on BIS, Chandos, DG, Orfeo, Philips, EMI, BMG, Estonian Record Productions, etc.)!
Nobody has done a great effort for all the Scandinavian authors like what Jarvi has done with the help I have to say of DG. And he recorded a lot of things it’s a blame I will tell to Rouvali at Goteborg now who didn’t make enough records.

A riddle why VPO have not yet invited him.
He would have been marvelous for the first of January. But seeing Muti 25 times is more intersting… we didn’t understand you and I…. The Berliner was more clever and he did once the Waldbhune. of course it was one of the 4 best concerts in this place. With the RCO it was a long story but I regret that we don’t have videos or records form Neeme in Amsterdam.
Oh, yes, there are.

Thanks Gustavo. Disclogs is fantastic and when you go there you find some records who are not on Spotify… I remember a Chung-Prokofiev-RCO Romeo from the mid-90’s.. it was from DG and I bought it on Disclogs it was not on Spotify.
He was also at the head of the Residentieorkest (the Hague Philharmonic) 2005-2011. Made several recordings for Chandos, Bis, own managemant (Mahler, Bruckner, Korngold, Eino Tamberg and so on). Seems a bit forgotten
Let’s hope the VPO will very soon.
They didn’t invite Blomstedt until he was in his 80s. The VPO aren’t what they used to be anyway. Thanks to Jarvi we have a really great recording of Schmidt’s 2nd Symphony.
A great conductor in a wide variety of music, with benchmark cycles of Prokofiev, Dvorák, Stenhammar and many others. Met him once, albeit very briefly: A nice, humble man. Happy birthday!
Don’t forget his countryman, Eduard Tubin.
If Rouvali and the musicians of the Goteborg Orchestra read us… I hope that they will make records of his music. he deserves it.
And Arvo Pärt.

Great memories of outstanding concerts directed by Neeme Jarvi in the 1980s with the then Scottish National Orchestra, now the RSNO. His recordings of Prokofiev and Shostakovich are a treasured part of my CD collection. A conductor who never bores an orchestra and allows musicians the freedom to play. Happy Birthday Maestro!
He even championed Elgar and Parry!

I played on the 2 Schostakovitch violin concertos, LOVED it.
You are still loved and missed in Detroit. The sophisticated programming of your tenure , in this painfully dumbed-down and woke-politiked age, was marvelous. One could walk into that glorious old hall and hear Scharwenka’s 4th! Or an encore by Liadov ! Not the 99th Carmina Burana or that other schlock. Thank you ! Glad to see you still enjoy the water. The herons and gulls on the Detroit River and Lake St. Clair miss you bombing around out there and would love to see you back. Happy 85th birthday, Maestro ! Baltic Strong !
Even the brown pelicans of Florida seem to like Neeme.
As a young conducting student, I saw many of his rehearsals and performances in Detroit. Terrific natural musician, great rapport with the orchestra, and a complete inspiration to me personally. Thank you, Maestro!
So kind of you to come to our BSO concerts in Tallinn in 1976, a very different place then, and to grace us with your presence on the podium back in the UK.
You are one of the finest I have had the pleasure of playing for.
Happy Birthday.
This was fun.
