Earl Lee, assistant conductor of the Boston symphony, has been named music director of the Ann Arbor Symphony.

Earl won this year’s Georg Solti conducting award.

He competed in Ann Arbor against a strong field of:
Lina Gonzalez-Granados (LA Opera); Perry So (Orquesta Sinfónica de Navarra), Jacob Joyce (Assistant Conductor of Pittsburgh Symphony;
Oriol Sans (Catalunya, Spain) and Morihiko Nakahara (Music Director of the South Carolina Philharmonic)

    It was really no contest against Lina; my colleagues hated her in Ann Arbor, and also at the Dallas Opera (where it got so bad the musicians went to management against her….ask about it, she didn’t know the score at all)
