An opera on Princess Diana’s last love
NewsAn opera about Diana’s relationship with Dodi Al Fayed is about to open at Anglesey’s Beaumaris Festival, reports BBC Wales.
Its composer Lisa Logan said: ‘I was looking for a story that was really well known, I was looking for a really strong woman and I wanted something that would potentially reach a wider audience. We’ve tried to be incredibly respectful of all the members in the royal family that are mentioned. I think I’m a royalist.’
“I think I’m a royalist.” That comment gave me a good laugh, even as I know nothing about Lisa Logan.
In that vein, I think I weigh 10 pounds less than some scales say that I do. 🙂
Another thought comes to mind from the side-splitting 1988 comedy, “The Naked Gun” starring Leslie Nielsen as Lt. Frank Drebin of Police Squad.
Addressing a news conference to announce Queen Elizabeth’s upcoming visit to Los Angeles, Lt. Drebin states at a press conference called by LA’s mayor:
“Protecting the safety of the Queen is a task that’s gladly accepted by Police Squad. For no matter how silly the idea of having a Queen might be to us, as Americans we must be gracious and considerate hosts.”
Oy vey. Anna Nicole Smith part deux.
Oh dear, shall we now look forward to “Lady Diana, the Musical”?
Sometimes it’s hard to know if a comment is being archly ironic or …
Anyway, indeed, both “Diana”, the musical, and “Diana: the Musical”, the Netflix movie based on that musical, were dreadful and universally panned.
Lisa Logan’s planned opera is just another iteration of the cheap crass exploitation of Diana.
Looking forward to Dodi’s Lament.
Chapeau!
Hard pass on this one. Enough with Diana already. Completely uninteresting person.
