Wells Cathedral director of music quits
NewsJeremy Cole, Director of Music at Wells Cathedral, has resigned after just over two years. He will leave at Christmas.
No reason has been given but the Cathedral is ridden with ‘unhappiness and fear’, according to a recent report. Read it here.
Pretty pathetic: a barrage of first-world problems.
Probably easier to be dismissive when you have not been on the receiving end, or witnessed the damage.
–and yet, I can read like everybody else.
Totally agree. The bullying was frightening – and the anxiety and upset almost constant. I have never experienced anything like it.
More bullying in the Christian church by clergy and more people walking away from it when you read this kind of thing! Doesn’t give a good impression to anyone where love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control – the fruits of the Holy Spirit they are all supposed to be preaching and try to live up to!
They’re people like everyone else. There are bad bosses and managers in every area of human endeavour, so why not churches?
Indeed – but it doesn’t excuse it, particularly in an institution which (regularly) speaks of Love.
Trouble is that there was ALSO kindness (to some), hard work, giftedness and, in some ways, goodness. Even Christians can be damaged people.
Couldn’t have been too bad if it’s taking him 6 months to leave.
He will certainly have had a written contract. And maybe he also felt some sense of duty to allow adequate time for a successor to be found.
He was one of the causes!
