Brazil mourns much-loved Guest
RIPA Holocaust survivor who fled Hungary for Brazil in 1956, Ian Guest revolutionist music teaching and appreciation in his new country.
His life was celebrated three years ago in a film, The Imperfectionist.
His death has been reported this weekend.
Just this brief clip is beautiful. So grateful that Brazil was able to welcome and treasure Jews escaping the Holocaust.
Guest survived the Holocaust in Hungary; what he was escaping was the Soviet suppression of the 1956 Hungarian revolt. Brazil had welcomed many Holocaust escapees; Guest happens not to have been one of them.
Does anyone know what his Hungarian birth name was?
Aha — my query answered in the film trailer.
