um…it’s “to the manner born” not “manor”
wrong
The TV series ‘To the Manor Born’ was a play-on-words, Norman…
Correct. It’s Shakespeare’s fault.
Hamlet I, iv
Hamlet:
The king does wake tonight and takes his rouse…[etc.]
Horatio:
Is it a custom?
Hamlet:
Ay, marry is’t,
And to my mind, though I am native here
And to the manner born, it is a custom
More honored in the breach than the observance.
But to my mind, – though I am native here
And to the manner born, – it is a custom
More honour’d in the breach than the observance.
– William Shakespeare
Everyone is correct. Shakespeare used “manner” and the Brit sit come was “Manor.”
Wishing him well as a composer entering a very competitive commercial field. The article references a performer on this score as ‘ jazz flugelhornist Jeff Beal’. I think it is worth noting that Jeff is also a brilliant composer too. He has been responsible for the music for Monk and House of Cards among other scores.
I listened to ‘In Fields’. I found it quite dull.
