Ukrainian orchestra players return home to fight
NewsKorea Herald reports that three members of the Seoul Pops Orchestra have packed up and gone home to bear arms.
They are named as contrabassist Ziuzkin Dmytro, 47, violist Lev Keler, 51, and trumpet player Matviyenko Konstyantyn, 52.
What can we do to help them – money (and if so, to what organisation?), best wishes through social media (if it is still available), but what else? I have never felt so totally helpless in the midst of such a huge humanitarian crisis, on every level, not just musical. I am in tears at every news report of the Great People of the Ukraine! I will give whatever I can, but only if I can somehow in my own little way be a help. A frustrating situation. Cancelling Gergiev + Netrebko + whomever else is merely a chip off a huge boulder (that is a vast understatement but I cannot find the right words).
If anyone here knows – realistically – how to help, PLEASE LET US KNOW!
Cancelling a Met show is a nice gesture but merely a gesture.
You wrote as many of us are feeling and trying to help. I will choose Unicef/ Ukraine..I asked facebook friends , to unfriend me, if they agree with the last President, that Outin is a genius in invading the Ukraine.
Not in this order, but here is your answer.

“May God bless them and keep them” comes to mind.
Sigh.
The Ukrainian Army killed over 10,000 on the Donbas region since the US-led 2014 coup.
I don’t remember the Ukrainian orchestra players denouncing this. I’m upset the Seoul Pop Orchestra allowed them to play.
Slave Ukrani!!!!
Godspeed, gentlemen!
At their ages, they might be more effective playing music.
That depends on how poorly they play, and if they amplify their pops music towards the Russian Army. Otherwise, taking up arms is more useful.
History has shown us musicians are hero’s. These men are no exception. God be with you!
You are wrong, Lee Ann. Reinhardt Heydrich was a superb violinist and his father owned a music school; Hitler loved Wagner; Wagner was a huge anti-Semite. And more contemporaneously, there’s V. Gergiev and Anna N.
Respect gentlemen! I wish I had yor courage!
