The veteran rockstar has reissued a little-sung 1984 number called ‘Russians’ with all earnings being donated to the Help Ukraine Centre. The new version is scored for guitar and cello.

Sting says: ‘I rarely sang this song in the many years since it was written, because I never thought that it would become relevant again. For the brave Ukrainians, who are fighting against this cruel tyranny, as well as for the many Russians who protest against such violence despite the threat of arrest and imprisonment. We all love our children. Stop the war.’

On tour in Germany, he is performing the song with two cellists from Ukraine.

‘I hope the Russians love their children, too,’ runs one line.’

Impossible to talk of this song important and to don’t talk about Prokofiev.

  • Not important says:

Nice… And what did he sing when 500 000 Iraqi children were killed in War in Iraq???

  • Anders says:

Like Sting but this was a mawkish and naive song 38 years ago and it still is.
