Sibelius Competition admits 2 Russians, 2 Ukrainians
NewsThe important violin competition has chosen 49 violinists from 16 countries to participate in Helsinki in late May.
Among them are Ravil Islyamov and Galiya Zharova from Russia, and Dmytro Udovychenko and Georgii Moroz from Ukraine.
Zharova (pictured left) identifies on Facebook as being from Kazakhstan.
There are seven US contestants, 2.5 Finns, none from the UK.

The Nielsen Competition (Violin, Clarinet, Flute) in Denmark will also go forward in the last week in March with candidates from Ukraine & Russia They have issued a statement avowing non discrimination because of nationality.
Yesterday the Paloma O’Shea Santander International Piano Competition in Spain made a similar announcement, stating that Russian and Belarusian candidates will not be excluded from the competition.
I see some familiar names on the list, but with so many competitions, what is even the Sibelius anymore? Without googling, who can name a top prize winner of the previous competition?
And that there is my point. The competition circuit is a concert series of its own; pre-professionals in a Hunger/Squid Games setup around the same pieces with the some motley crew of jurors.
