Death of a Russian composer in England
RIPWe have learned of the sad passing yesterday of Vladislav Shoot, a leading member of the Russian musical diaspora that settled in the UK in the 1990s. Slava had just turned 81.
He settled with his family in Dartington as composers in residence, composing for small to medium ensembles. This did not attract many headlines but it enabled him to maintain control of musical textures that were of the highest importance to him. He had an exquisite touch with texture.
His output consists of chamber symphonies, choral works and solo piano meditations.
His son Eli is a composer, his daughter Nika a pianist.
