Yannick replaces two underlings
NewsMusic Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin has appointed two new conducting fellows at the Philadelphia Orchestra, starting September.
Austin Chanu and Tristan Rais-Sherman will replace Erina Yashima and Lina Gonzalez-Granados, whose terms have ended.
Yashima (pictured) has gone on to become first conductor of the Komische Oper Berlin and Gonzalez-Granados is resident conductor at Los Angeles Opera.
Yannick says: ‘I’m incredibly proud of the Orchestra’s commitment to cultivating the next generation of conductors, and I love working with our future musical leaders.’
Austin Chanu is presently assistant conductor of the Eastman Philharmonia and Eastman School Symphony, and president of Eastman’s student-run contemporary ensemble OSSIA New Music.
Tristan Rais-Sherman is guest conductor at the New England Conservatory of Music.
Hold on, there’s something wrong with my computer screen color and imaging. The two new appointees appear to be white, and male, on my screen.
Commendable.
Underlings… this disrespectful language belongs to a different era.
What you mean is refreshingly ‘accurate’ language Ulysses.
I am all for accurate and refreshing, it is impolite and derogatory that I find crass.
Underlings???????…….Both ladies are very talented artists in their own right.
Underlings? I’m surprised you didn’t say “Directresses”
or perhaps “minionesses” …
since this is about the best conductor that ever existed, should they be called overlings?
Men? How shocking!
Lina Gonzalez-Granados seems to be controversial on this board. There were some negative reports from Chicago and Cleveland. Are there any positive reports?
