Marta adds another job
NewsThe Polish conductor Marta Gardolińska has been appointed Principal Guest Conductor at the Orquestra Sinfònica de Barcelona, where Ludovic Morlot is music director.
Marta is also music director at the Opera national de Lorraine.
The farce apparently continues. She became Music Director in Nancy, mind you of an opera house, when she had exactly one opera in her repertoire. And now this. Something is going very wrong in this business.
The downvoters to your comment must know something you don’t.
Or they are just more Woke than you.
Perhaps the woke bubble should have a look at her videos. She’s stiff as a rooster’s comb, lacks any sense of agogic, any elegance and leadership. A ridiculous bouncing jackdaw.
I’m not amongst the woke crowd but I did take a peek at her Tchaik 4 with Bournemouth.
Good grief. She really is terrible.
Now she has three.
Which is three too much.
Why the hatred in these comments? What is your agenda? What has ‘Wokeness’ got to do with it? YT videos do not support your description of her as a conductor.
Bone was assuming that the downvoters come from the woke bubble and in my personal opinion he is absolutely right. But I would say the same words about a male or genderfluid or whatever “conductor” of this “quality”.
It was probably up to Mr. Morlot who he wanted under him in Barcelona.
… which probably says something about Morlot’s own musical standards. (Some of us in the United States have been distinctly underwhelmed by him.)
The real question, Achim and Bone, is, “why is this woman on the podium and not in the kitchen cooking your dinners?”, correct? And, please note, I’m still waiting for a weird comment about penises from Achim to fill my “nevertheless revealing Freudian comments from internet trolls” bingo card.
Unfortunately, I won’t be able to do you the favor with the bingo card. Furthermore, I much prefer to cook my dinner on my own. My only concern is and has always been the quality as a conductor, musician and artist. There are as many failures among conductors with penises as there are among conductors with vaginas. In case you haven’t noticed, I also bluntly state my opinion about the penis ones, such as a couple of weeks ago about Eschenbach and his Beethoven 5th with the Copenhagen Philharmonic. On the other hand, I am absolutely convinced of Canellakis, who is a great conductor and musician. So, calm down.
No.It´s about fantastic conductors and musicians, like Karina Cannelakis,Susanna Mälkki,Kiril Petrenko,Klaus Mäkelä,and others who are not….From both sexes….It doesn´t have to do anything with gender.Just btw,i played under Marie Jacquot before the pandemic. She was really fabulous.
All the armchair conductors who comment at SD are just ridiculous. Truly.
Barry, now you’ve really given it to us, I’m impressed!
Achim Mentzel is a known crazy person and is not to be trusted. He also has a strange problem with anything female related.
I actually love everything which is female related but I detest all this tits over talent quota crap, which is then sold here by some as necessary positive discrimination.
In general i agree with you, butin this case….She gives a bit the impression of armchair conducting…..And i really am very fond of some women conductors. Both Susanna Mälkki and Karina Cannelakis are fantastic, and they get better and better….Not just by watching them, but to listen to their performances.Turn the picture off Mrs.Gardolinska´s performances, and the results are very foresquare and coarse..Both Mälkki and Cannelakis played string instruments on the highest level,in top orchestras. It shows in the way the orchestra sounds.Gardolinska didn´t play an orchestra instrument, and it shows….
This comment section is definitely a cesspool of vitriol, filled with people that have very specific opinions without actually putting any skin in the game.
I was lucky enough to hear Ms. Gardolinska conducting Mahler and Lutoslawski with the OBC in Barcelona last year and her approach to Mahler’s world, together with her flexibility as an accompanist, were delightful, to say the least. I look forward to more visits from her to our hometown
I played one of the best Rite I’d Spring performances that I’ve ever done with her and a major US orchestra. I’ve played it with many famous conductors and hers stood out. Clarity, precision, led just enough but not over the top, and her rehearsal time was very efficient.
I had the pleasure to play under her quite a few times about five years ago and cannot understand the viciousness of these comments. My experience was that of a fine, musical, efficient and respectful conductor. I wish her all the best!
