Breaking: Berlin Philharmonic appoints its first Chinese member
NewsThe audition for the position of first principal viola in the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra was won this week by Diyang Mei, presently principal viola of the Munich Philharmonic.
Mei, 27 and from Hunan, is the first Chinese natonal in the orchestra.
He won first prize in the 2018 ARD competition and has played ever since in Munich.The Munich Phil say they are letting him go ‘with one eye crying and the other smiling.’
